Punch and Judy

As an artist, I feel compelled to highlight various societal injustices, domestic abuse being one of them.

Punch wears a maniacal smile, while his blue eyes sport a cold and psychopathic stare. He violently grips his child’s arm while menacingly clutching a club in his other hand, threatening both mother and child.

The kneeling guardian angel symbolises the mother's and child’s prayers. He tries to shield both Judy and the baby by placing himself between them.He emits an angelic vibration, while his wings and hair glow yellow with heavenly light.

Too many women suffer in silence due to shame and fear of being murdered at the hands of their abuser, only to share their deepest thoughts and hopes of it stopping through their prayers.

The child, deeply traumatised, stares helpless and wide-eyed at her father. The uncertainty of her safety was demonstrated as she bit her lower lip.

Judy tries in vain to pull the child from Punch's steely grip. Her eyes, frozen in fear, betrayed her red lips, which hold a false smile. She has now become quite accustomed to putting on a brave face in public.
